Zapateria is the Philippines’ first creative hub for footwear design and development that aims to foster the industry’s new generation of independent shoemakers.
Zapateria envisions to make the country an international destination known for its globally competitive design craft and workmanship in footwear making. It serves as a center for creativity and ingenuity expressed through the practice of great craftsmanship, and is open to serve aspiring designers and makers, budding footwear entrepreneurs, and hobbyists who are interested in learning the craft.
The Zapateria Community
One of Zapateria's core principles is to create a community composed of individuals who share the same passion and values. The Zapateria Community is bonded together by the shared love for the craft of shoemaking and design. Our in-house team is made of the earlier and new generation designers and makers of footwear based in Marikina with mentorship of Zapateria’s creative director, 4th generation shoe designer and maker, Rico. Sta. Ana. The hub was co-founded by father-daughter tandem, Rico and Unyx Sta. Ana.
Zapateria works with the shoemaking community, aiming to foster the creative talents of each artisan and designer-maker as a foundation for a healthy and successful industry. As a creative hub based in Marikina, Zapateria's services also extend outside the city like Makati, Laguna, Cebu, and Davao.
We keep the traditional making but also innovate in the process with high regard to Filipino making. We cascade the expertise and know-how of our skilled artisans to the next or new generation to preserve the tradition and make it better. We also transfer knowledge and train partner manufacturers to enable them to take on more original designs and better production which will be beneficial for the industry as a whole.
We collaborate in many ways at the hub with designers, artists, other hubs in making beautiful shoes that we all can be proud of and in spreading the love of shoemaking.
